I would be willing to run a public geography session and produce a couple of local walks where I am.
Ooh, I can't wait. This is genius.

It will never happen and geography should not be trying to do this.

Quite a while ago the idea was thrown around for the biggest lesson/workshop ever to be given in the UK by having a day or week of geographers giving a talk, walk or bit of research in their local area. It could even be the same hour and everyone recording info on walks for Duncan Fuller's My Walks website.. either way, at the GA Conference the Field Studies Council raised eye brows at this in interest.

Could we not form a database of people who are willing to run somthing in a coffee shop, at a lake, in a town or another urban space to attract in the public?

Once more, at the GA someone brought up historians having lots of leaflets explaining local history. These are very useful and often brilliant. Can we not join the party? Can we not start Geographer's Guides to local places by suggesting walks that people can go and do? They could be printable off the web, or we could use some cash to get some printed up... pamphlets (A4 3 fold) are cheap as chips to produce and maybe... given who we are... the OS might even throw in some free data.
